meet: Jo Rosenthal
@justjorosenthal
Jo Rosenthal is a New York-based writer, artist, and woman about town specializing in fashion, art, and culture. With a background in Fine Arts and Writing from The New School for Design, Jo has been writing for as long as she can remember. What began as a hobby turned into a passion, leading her to contribute to multiple websites as a fashion and culture writer, as well as publish zines and books that can be found at zine fairs around the world, at Printed Matter, and in the MoMa library.
In her spare time, you’ll find Jo recipe testing artisanal dishes in her kitchen or writing in her journal, filled with prompts and short story ideas. She loves to immerse herself in literature, explore the city's vibrant streets, and publishes a weekly Substack newsletter on modern dating and self-discovery in New York.
We had the pleasure of chatting with Jo to learn more about her life as a writer-artist and her passion for crafting compelling stories through digital media that resonate with audiences near and far. Read more below.

Q: What are 3 words your friends/family would use to describe you?
A: Hilarious, affectionate, stubborn
-
Q: Tell us the story behind Jo Rosenthal
A: I was born on a sunny day on November 3rd in Miami Beach. I cried a lot as a baby, which is funny because I still cry a lot as an adult…Â
-
Q: your favourite pieces that you’ve written or created that you’re most proud of?
A: Every time I write something new, I’m more proud of that than the last thing I wrote, and so on and so on…
-
Q: If you could give your younger self one piece of advice, what would it be?
A: Plant every seed. And I mean this in both the physical and metaphysical sense.Â
-
Q: What’s your favourite childhood snack?
A: Rainbow cookies from Laurenzo’s (RIP)
-
Q: How would you describe your style?
A: Picture me setting a five-minute timer, diving into my closet blindfolded, and still walking out like I planned it.
Q: What are your favorite fashion trends of all time?
A: Tracksuits for everyone… and messy hair…together or separate ;)Â
Q: Any upcoming personal projects you’d like to share with us or a sneak peak?
A: I just started working on a book of short stories. If you enjoy reading, my substack is essentially a ‘tell-all’ and you can see almost everything I’ve written recently on there…if you see me say hi
